What do you think of that statement?

That quote comes courtesy of Gary Barker who is a formidable character when it comes to promoting gender equality and encouraging men to be more involved fathers and caregivers.

Gary is the latest guest to feature on my @dadpoduk podcast. I’ve also abridged the interview so you can read a shortened version on the blog (link in bio up above).

Gary was a stay at home dad. He subsequently went on to become one of the lead authors of the State of the World’s Fathers report and co-founded both the gender equality charity @promundo_br and the fatherhood and caregiving charity #MenCare.

Home learning tech: R U drowning in it?

Schools and teachers have unquestionably pulled a rabbit out of the hat with the online learning being provided to pupils. But...

The tech schools are relying on is all over the place. Work is one platform, live lessons on another platform and messaging parents...well, that can be done on a variety of apps or platforms. None of them are compatible.

It works in a crisis...just, but it isn’t ideal and it could be better. I’m hoping when we’re through this COVID madness, the powers that be take a long, hard look at what happened in 2020 and 2021 and upgrade school tech so it is simplified.

I’ve been trying for years to get a detailed photo of the moon. I’ll tried all manner of crazy techniques and then yesterday, I managed it.

How did I get this pic? I stuck my phone up against the eye piece of the kids’ telescope.

Yup, that simple!

#AD Encourage hand washing & keep Coronavirus at bay!

I’ve been sent this nifty ‘Protect Kids Stamp’ from @Microban and #Colop.

What you do is stamp your child’s hand. The stamp, fittingly, comes in the shape of a COVID-19 germ. The child’s challenge is to have washed the stamp off by the time they go to bed at night!

I’ll let you know in a Story tomorrow if Helen and Izzy successfully completed the challenge!

Motivation during lockdown. Is motivation a probl

Motivation during lockdown.

Is motivation a problem in your household? Are you wandering around in pyjamas until two in the afternoon? Do you struggle to get your kids off the sofa when the remote-learning day is done?

I recognised this was going to be a potential problem during the Christmas holidays. I realised I needed to buck up my ideas as I was finding life in Tier 4 and then lockdown soooo energy sapping.

I worry about the impact on the kids as well. They have no activities scheduled, can’t visit friends and so on and some days it takes a long time to get them out the house and on one of the muddy walks we go on each day.

I’ve written in more detail about this on the blog (link in bio). One thing, however, I’m doing each day is wearing aftershave. It’s a small thing, but it concentrates the mind.

Oh, and for the record, I have never sat up in the mid morning playing video games in a pyjama / hoodie combo. It just made for a good pic, innit.
