<ad> Skating my way to fitness with a pair of @microskaters MT Plus in-line skates (not that I’d usually wear a suit while skating but it made for a better picture!) Anyway, in the latest of my posts focused on ways to stay active while social distancing, I try out Microskaters’ MT Plus in-line skates.

The wheels had amazing free movement and performed well with everything I throw at them (going forwards, backwards, lemons, t-stops, going at speed etc.). They also had some great features such as a ratchet on one of the buckles for tightening and ‘bumpers’ on the sides. While this will divide opinion, I did feel they’d have benefitted from having a heel brake (although one will soon be available to buy as an add-on accessory). More on the blog (link in bio). .

The new reality of using public transport. I had to take my eldest out this morning. We had to use the bus for a short distance so face masks were obligatory, although no one else on the bus was wearing them (although it was very empty). It makes me wonder what will happen when all the secondary schools open up and the pupils start travelling by bus again. School buses by their very nature are complete anarchy.

Changing the subject completely, this was the first time in weeks and weeks that I have managed to spend several hours with one of the children without the other being there. When the schools closed I started out with all the best intentions but if there’s one thing I have missed, it’s quality one to one time with the kids.

Very powerful words here from Natalie Costa, founder of specialist children’s coaching service @powerthoughtsnc
I think Natalie’s absolutely right and we should think a bit differently about homeschooling in the present circumstances.

You’ll find Natalie on the blog (see link in bio). I was asking her about the biggest challenges parents and kids presently face and what mums and dads can do to ease any anxiety their offspring are presently experiencing.

That said, I went totally off-piste and also asked about preparing children for the return to school and how to build their confidence. Natalie’s a fascinating individual with some amazing insights so I do recommend going and having a read.
Do you, however, think what we’re all doing is *really* homeschooling, or are we, as Natalie says, doing the best in very tough circumstances.

#SpreadFactsNotFear Unfortunately you can’t believe everything on social media, especially when it comes to the Coronavirus pandemic. I have seen some very questionable statements made by people who should know a lot better and so I’m very happy to support the @ifrc and its Spread Facts Not Fear initiative.

The aim is to combat fake news and instead spread messages of hope and love. In this spirit, I’m sharing this image of a heart, the internationally recognised symbol of kindness and compassion. I took the picture while taking a walk in some nearby woods.

I’ve always enjoyed walking but at the moment I enjoy it more than ever. The slower pace of life means I’ve really noticed the change in seasons and I love the sound of birdsong. I find it very uplifting to walk among the trees and fields.
