A colourful find at Emmetts Garden

Earlier this week I decided to venture out into the wind and rain and take some pictures. It was a challenge to see what I could find to photograph in these horrible conditions and so after the school run one morning, I ventured off to Emmetts Garden, a hillside garden managed by the National Trust in Kent.

Despite the rain and wind, and the fact most of its peers had died back, this plant was continuing to flower. It was a noticeable dash of colour among the other plants.

Curvature of the Earth

It’s happened! After months and months of stress, we have at long last moved house. This was the week of the move and with exchange and completion taking place very close to each other, it’s been a busy time. I haven’t had an opportunity to get out with my camera and so this image is another one from my recent visit to Leith Hill.

A pollarded tree sitting on the edge of Leith Hill. Look behind the tree, however, and you can just make out the curvature of the Earth by following the landscape.

View from Leith Hill Tower

Keen to practice my photography in different locations, I jumped in the car while the kids were at school and took myself off to a National Trust site in Surrey called Leith Hill. I was totally chancing it as I’d never been before but it worked out well because it is a glorious location.

Point, shoot and hope for the best

I took this photograph of a bee collecting pollen on a brief visit to a National Trust property called Emmets Garden. Having recently published an image of a flower taken in poor lighting conditions, I wanted to see what I could do on a sunny day.

I was supposed to be taking photographs of flowers in good lighting conditions. When this bee came to say hello, well, I had to change my plans.

A visit to Box Hill proves the land is waking up

I don’t know what it’s like where you live, but we’ve had some glorious sunshine on the London / Surrey borers and temperatures have soared into double figures. The land is waking up after this long, grey winter and this was very apparent during a visit I made to Box Hill on Friday with Helen, Izzy and a friend of theirs.

This was one of several butterflies I saw on Box Hill in Surrey on Friday. Along with flowers that were bursting to life, it was a sure sign this long, grey winter is coming to an end.
