I’ve not had a huge amount of time to dedicate to photography this week. I did, however, find myself in Parliament Square in Central London early on Tuesday evening and that’s where I took this image.

If your partner died, you would hope for sympathetic treatment from the Powers That Be. The reality is very different. Let’s, just for a moment, look at the financial realities. Eligibility for Bereavement Support Payments has just been slashed from 20 years to 18 months. Oh, and you have to be married to receive them.
Picture the scene. You’re in a Committee Room in the Palace of Westminster overlooking the River Thames in London. It’s mid-afternoon on an overcast Tuesday in November and it’s already getting dark outside.
Picture the scene. It’s a grey, murky day. You have a seven-year-old child to entertain and your sister, who isn’t overly familiar with London, is making a rare visit to the UK from her home in the United States.
I’ve just returned from a marvelous day in London with Helen, my oldest daughter. It was just the two of us and we had a great time together.
