I’d been meaning to do something about the roller blind in our baby’s room for ages. It was clearly very old and had a string pull-cord that I’ve never liked because of the risk of it getting caught round a child’s neck.

It was also covered it Sudacrem (don’t ask) and had several holes in it following years and years of use. I was therefore delighted to be given the chance to try out a Luxaflex roller blind.

This particular model comes with a ‘cleat’ that you screw into the wall. This holds the pull cord in place thereby reducing the risk of a child having an accident.

One thing that really made this blind stand out was the ease of installation. It took me a total of 45 minutes from start to finish and that included taking down the old blind. This was a very pleasant surprise as I thought it would take considerably longer.

The blind looks good, works perfectly and my family like the look of it. I say the family like it, the baby hasn’t offered an opinion but big sister and mummy are pleased.

It’s worth noting that Luxaflex produce and sell a variety of blinds and window coverings including a range designed to appeal to children. Safety is something the company takes very seriously and so some blinds are cordless or motorised.

Prices vary depending on the size, fabric and style of blind but roller blinds start from around £45.   For more information go to http://luxaflex.co.uk.

  1. Hi John,

The room is looking good, I like the fabric on the blind.

Does the cord detatch when a specific weight is applied, reducing the risk of strangulation? New legislation is going through Parliament at the moment which will, apparently, force manufacturers to make this feature integral to all corded window treatments.

It’s a really important step, too many children needlessly die from this.

    1. Hi Lynne
I can’t say for certain whether the cord would detach but I had a good look at the cord before installing it. I may be mistaken, but there is a join in the middle of the cord and I think it would probably come apart if too much weight was applied.

  2. Discount window blinds are either cordless with fitted blinds
special lifting & remote control features or they are motorized.

Wood venetian blinds can be your answer. Try to take
    a gentle glass cleaner.
