The Tooth Fairy. What are your thoughts on the Tooth Fairy tradition?

I’ve never been a huge fan. I just think you build your kids up for a fall when they learn the truth....as happened in our household last week.

Izzy had lost a tooth and Mrs Adams put a banknote under her pillow (we did have words, normally it’s a pound or two, not a fiver which is way too much). But....this wasn’t any ordinary banknote. Oh no, it was a limited edition Scottish banknote that featured a picture of the golfer Jack Nicklaus.
Guess what? Izzy clocked this was an odd thing for the Tooth Fairy to leave behind, figured out the truth and refused to get out of bed until I’d gone to the shops and got her an English £5 note.

No, this photograph is NOT upside down! I’d forgive you for thinking so, but it’s a trick shot and it was my 10-year-old daughter who showed me how to do it!

I’ll let you into the secret. The picture is the correct way up, but I was holding my camera upside down when I took it!
It was something she saw on YouTube and so we both had a go taking pictures of this pond. I think we were very lucky with the reflections. Because they’re what make the image.
I wonder if she’ll be a photographer in later life?

(Ad) See those unicorns? Well, they’re some of Izzy’s favourite toys. Apparently they’re a family.

They’re sat on an @epsonuk ET 2711 printer. The unicorn family may have liked the printer, but did their human owners?

In a word, yes. It’s very easy to use and I love the EcoTank (ET) concept. Instead of replacing printer cartridges, you fill the printer up with ink when it’s running low.

Look what I got in the mail today! No, not the key, the key ring!

It’s one of 100,000 #BeKind key rings @smiggle_uk is giving away as part of the anti-bullying campaign it is running in partnership with @thismorning
You’re probably aware this week is Anti-Bullying Week. Like most people, I experienced some bullying at school. Schools are much better at dealing with it than they used to be but so much bullying happens online these days. Us parents have to be constantly on the look out for it in case our kids are caught up in it somehow.

The message in the key ring is very simple. Just be kind.
And if you are experiencing bullying, seek help, whatever your age. You can find out more on the This Morning website.

#AD “Yeah I’m gonna take my horse to the old town road...” I think this photo sums up my day. It’s been so shambolic that riding round the living room on a carpet cleaner seems normal.
The day got off to a bad start when the youngest refused to get out of bed because the tooth fairy (IE Mrs Adams) had left a rare, distinctive, Scottish bank note under her pillow instead of a few coins. The result? Izzy no longer believes in the Tooth Fairy and the only way I could get her out of bed was to go to the shop, break a tenner and give her an English £5 (still way too much IMO. Mrs Adams and I will have words). Needless to say, this threw the morning routine and school run completely out of synch.

Just after lunchtime, however, I discovered I was in the @vuelio Top 20 mum and dad blogger list! I’m delighted to feature at No.6 among a superb group of content creators. This really made my day. Well done to all on the list and thanks Vuelio!

As for the carpet cleaner, it’s a @vaxcleanhome Platinum Max. I gave it a quick go this afternoon and a detailed review will be on the blog soon.

#AD How typical is this? Dad being ignored while the kids play with his phone? Does this happen in your household?

All is not quite what it seems. Helen and Izzy are using a new app from @humanheroesapp called Curie on Matter. It’s an educational app that teaches youngsters about the fascinating life of pioneering scientist Marie Curie through a series of mini games (with Miriam Margolyes narrating the app). For instance, did you know that Curie and her female friends had to study in secret because higher education was not open to women in her era? Unreal when you think that Curie went on to discover both polonium and radium, which are used in cancer treatments.

In summary, though, a great way to get kids away from watching trashy videos and doing something useful with their screen time.
