We all know what it’s like as a homeowner. Family life gets busy and there are competing priorities: Work stress, making sure the kids are on top of homework, ensuring pets are healthy and so on. Somewhere among all this you are meant to keep on top of home maintenance. In every family home, there are a number of maintenance issues that tend to go forgotten or overlooked for years. As is often the case with aspects of a building that can be left alone for decades, there will come a moment in time when, suddenly, you need to take action, either out of preventative necessity or because some component or other is worn out and broken.
Cladding often falls into this category. It’s not uncommon for people to find themselves looking for a cladding spraying company in a bit of a rush, to say the least. Below, we take a quick look at what should be included in your search for a cladding company, from a history of similar projects to some common issues. ANd yes, I have highlighted the need to look after the family home, but all these points would be relevant to a property manager also.
Portfolio of similar projects
A good place to start is to look for companies that have a portfolio of similar projects to the one you need doing. Look on their website, but also at reviews from previous clients on their Google business page or other similar online resources.
A few negative reviews are almost inevitable. If you see any clear trends emerge in those reviews, it’s worth considering whether that could pose a more serious issue to your project.
Safety credentials
Cladding needs to be applied in a safe manner, and you need to choose a company like ACS Coatings that can operate at the appropriate standards. These include taking appropriate safety measures when working at heights, limiting exposure against solvents and airborne particles, and mitigating the risk posed by fire.
Warranty
In many cases, you should be able to find companies that provide a long term warranty on their work – often well over 10, sometimes even 20 years. Check the standard offering of companies operating in your general area, and if you can, go with a company that provides an attractive guarantee.
Issues to watch out for
There are also some common issues or red flags that you should keep an eye out for.
One of these is offering a fixed quote without an initial site survey, or providing a quote which lacks itemisation. Competent providers will have a clear quote process in place, based on extensive knowledge of the building they’re working on and provide a clear breakdown of the costs that constitute the quote, from labour to materials.
Another big red flag is if the company you’re considering has no online presence. Either they’re a new company, and should be treated with some suspicion, or they’re operating under a new name to hide previous issues and should be treated with even more suspicion.
A cladding spraying company can help protect your premises for decades to come, but it’s important that you find the right one for your needs. Identify a company that’s completed similar projects, has excellent reviews, takes safety seriously and, ideally, offers a long-term warranty.
Avoid companies that have opaque online presences, provide unclear quotes, or just generally don’t feel like they’re being honest or communicative with you about the way they operate.
