Sunflower in decay

Sometimes beauty can be found in the strangest places. This image, for instance, is of a decaying sunflower. It was one of thousands of plants that made up a maze I visited with Izzy, my youngest daughter, earlier this week. I visited the same spot a few times over the summer months and back then, this sunflower would have been at least two metres tall, with a bright yellow head full of seeds.

A decaying sunflower. I found there was something captivating about the shapes and outline of this plant as it slowly rots.

Subway® helps bring NFL to London…..and Horley

If you’re going to introduce youngsters to a new sport, there’s one way to make it appealing: Close the traffic on London’s Piccadilly, build a huge ball pit on this hugely important thoroughfare and allow kids to jump into the pit with the promise of prizes for everyone who takes part. Thanks to Subway®, this is exactly how I recently spent a Saturday afternoon.

A woodland scene

In a scene replicated in many households during half-term, granny came to visit. During her all-too brief stay, we went out and visited Leith Hill, a National Trust site near Dorking in Surrey.

Sometimes simple scenes make for the best photographs. This woodland scene, for instance, really appealed to me.

An autumn walk that paid well for Helen

“Daddy, I don’t want to go for a walk,” said Izzy. We’d spent most of the day inside either doing domestic chores or at Helen’s gymnastics class. being a beautiful autumn day, I wanted the kids and I to get out and enjoy some fresh air, hence why I insisted we go for a walk. As you can tell from Izzy’s response, she wasn’t so keen on the idea.
