I woke up knowing I had a big day ahead of me. I was one of keynote speakers at the Genderation conference taking place at Brighton, Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College (BHASVIC). The aim of the event was to discuss a range of topics related to gender with an audience of Year 12 students.
Just a few short months ago, it all looked so promising. In a very high-profile move, a powerful group of MPs had called for radical workplace reform following a review of working practices and how they impact on fathers.
As we near Father’s Day, I’ve been getting increasingly reflective about my journey as a father. A question I’m often asked is whether I think fathers are taken more seriously now, compared to when I became a dad myself.
What does a father do when he can’t balance work and family life? As gender roles have become more fluid and men become more active on the domestic front, this has become an issue that increasing numbers of families face.
