The Korr Geomag is a magnetic construction toy newly launched in the UK. There are several different product lines but the one my daughter tried out was the Tazoo.
The toy has 71 components in total and is built around a magnetic, metal ball. Using a diagram, you have to place all the main blocks around the magnet. At this point in the process, the toy looks rather like the Death Star. To complete it, you clip additional plastic components on top of these blocks.
Slowly but surely you build up something that looks like an alien creature (having watched the Tazoo’s YouTube video, I believe they are meant to be friendly creatures!). My daughter, however, refers to it as her “frog dragon” and I can see why, it does look a bit like a hybrid of the two.
The toy is marketed for those aged five years and up. I must say my daughter is five and she struggled with it. I had to make most of it for her and when she did try and make the model she didn’t really have the necessary fine motor skills. This isn’t a show-stopper, I just wouldn’t recommend it for a child quite so young.
Once you’ve got the hang of building the toy, you can go freestyle and ditch the diagram. There are all manner of ways of building your Tazoo and you can extra legs, ears and so on.
On the plus side, the manufacture makes quite a big thing about this toy being for both boys and girls. It is refreshing to see a construction product being sold in this way and not targeted just at the boys.
You’ll find the Korr Geomag Tazoo available on Amazon. Expect to pay around £40.
