The Shard, Central London, My Sunday Photo
#MySundayPhoto, 20 July 2014. The Shard in Central London

Earlier this week I went to a bloggers’ event in Central London. Getting there involved passing through London Bridge Station. As I left the station I looked up and this is what caught my eye. For a variety of reasons, I’ve never been a huge fan of the Shard, but it does look very majestic from this angle.

There is a filthy secret behind this picture. There was no using my beloved camera or any fancy editing for this week’s My Sunday Photo. Oh no, this is an Instagram taken on my iPhone. Not that I’m knocking Instagram. I’ve only recently set up an account and I love what it can do to a simple snap (hint, you can link to my Instagram account by clicking on the icon in the top right of this page).

I love the simplicity of this image. Somehow the building and the clouds seem to merge with each other and the detail in the shot is, I think, impressive, especially for a pic taken on a mobile.

I’ve linked this post up to OneDad3Girls #MySundayPhoto linky. Do pay it a visit and see a huge range of photos from other bloggers.

  1. Great shot. You always have to be in just the right place to get the whole of a building in – I usually end up cropping something off them.

  2. I’ve never seen this building close up it is coming and terrifying all in one! An amazing shot and the skykind really adds to its drama, you must’ve been virtually horizontal to get this shot!

You are right, although many people don’t seem to like Instagram I think you can capture really great photo’s with it, and this is the perfect example, it’s so useful to use as it’s on your phone, love the perspective on this shot, did you make it to the top?

  4. I love the Shard, it makes such a great photography subject. I love the fact you can take so many different angles.

    Thank you for linking up

  5. Amazing shot. Gave the shard more character. And those clouds. You are in the right place at the right time me thinks. I am also loving my camphone and is heavily using it for almost all of the photos in the blog. Surprising what summer can do to photos even when taken with a simple camera phone. Might go back to the bigger ones when the seasons change again. #mysundayphoto
