School run nightmares

It would seem Western civilization is in peril. No, not because of Brexit and Trump but because a couple of schools have changed their rules about school uniform.
You’ve probably heard the story: a well-known retailer stuck a poorly-worded label in some of its school uniform. The label suggested the reinforced hems in its clothing would stay in place making “less work for mum” who wouldn’t have to sew them up again.
A few months ago I wrote a couple of blog posts about concerns I have over school uniform. I’ve added another gripe to my list: the school tie.
Buying school uniform is fraught with difficulties at the best of times. In my experience, my daughter, Helen, will tell me she wants skirts when in fact she wants dresses. Either that, or at her insistence, I’ll buy something with button fastenings when zips would be better.
