Antiques as Christmas gifts

An antique table football game available from Loveantiques.com. Doesn’t this look cool?

I’ll let you into a little secret; I may have one or two Christmas gifts left to buy. One option I am considering is for a couple of small antique pieces.

When growing up, I disliked antiques. It was the usual thing; I was rebelling against my parents. They’re very into antiques and there quite a few in our house.

As I’ve got older, however, I’ve found myself increasingly admiring antiques and I buy the occasional antique or vintage item, be it furniture, collectables or prints.

Some of the best gifts I have ever given were antiques. Okay, I say “best I’ve given”, what I mean is “best received gifts” have been antiques. I’ve previously bought my wife beautiful antique jewellery that has been incredibly well received (not just by her, but by my mother in law also!).

Although a vintage rather than antique piece, I recently bought myself a WWII Morse code machine from a nearby curio shop. My wife wasn’t entirely convinced it was a good purchase but it looks so cool in our living room!

Time is incredibly tight for this Christmas, but Loveantiques.com is one option if you are still looking for a few gifts. It’s a website I could spend hours and hours looking at, perusing the glassware, furniture, antique lighting, silverware and so on.

James Bond, antiques, antique toys,
One to keep rather than play with, but how about a vintage James Bond toy for the kids?

If you are feeling particularly brave, there are even a few antique and vintage toys on the site. My kids are quite young so I tend to avoid buying antique and vintage items for them as I think they could get easily damaged or lost. Even so, I wouldn’t rule out buying such items as an investment for the future.

Whatever stage you are at with your Christmas shopping, I wish you the very best of luck. I hope you get your shopping done in time.

  1. I really love the idea of receiving or giving antiques as a gift! However I would trust my other half to pick something I like. He always comes home with junk, I’m not exaggerating!

I’m so organised that I’ve been Christmas ready for almost 3 weeks now! Have a lovely Christmas!
