I’ve fulfilled an ambition of mine and managed to take a picture of a butterfly resting with its wings open.
I was inspired to try and get a shot of a butterfly resting in this position following the reaction to this image, which I took a few weeks ago. I got so many positive comments on social media that I simply had to head out to the same patch of meadow to see if I could improve on it. As I’ve said, this time my aim to was to get a snap while the butterfly rested with its wings open.
My eldest daughter came with me. She had her camera and together we took loads of shots of flowers, plants and butterflies.
Butterflies make for magnificent photographic subjects, but they move very, very fast. It’s not easy to get an image of them and this was the only usable pic I got.
I hope you like this image, which I have linked to the magnificent #MySundayPhoto linky hosted by the Photalife.com blog. It’s one of my favourite blogging linkies and I highly recommend clicking on the badge below to see some superb photography taken by other bloggers.

Brilliant. Well done you’ve captured it perfectly. I bet you were thrilled. # MySundayPhoto
I can tell you Tara I was thrilled and very surprised. It took a lot of patience to finally capture this image.
Yay! Well done on capturing the perfect butterfly shot. It really isn’t easy!
Thanks Sarah. No, not easy at all but I was delighted to have captured this one.
Hurrah! Did your daughter get any good shots? #MySundayPhoto
Oh she got lots but she prefers using filters so they look very different.
Such lovely detail, it has a certain calming feel to it
Thank you for linking up
I see what you mean about being calming. Thanks for hosting #MySundayPhoto Darren.

Yes, patience helped enormously. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Beautiful photo of the butterfly at rest. They are so hard to get a good photograph of – definitely lots of patience needed. Thank goodness for digital photography and being able to take hundreds of photos quickly and easily! 🙂
I can’t dent it, had I been using 35mm film I may never have got this shot! Glad you like it.
Hi John, you’ve done yourself proud! That is an excellent photo. Such pretty wings, even though it;s not the most colourful butterfly. It stands out nicely against the green background too.
xx
Thanks Debbie. It took a lot of patience to find a butterfly that obliged but I got there in the end!
These little meadow browns are so quick they are really hard to capture. Well done, patience pays off, I’ve yet to sit long enough.
Ah, meadow brown, is that what the variety is called? I’ve seen lots and lots of them this year.
It’s one of the hardest things ever to take a shot of an outstretched butterfly like that (if that’s the right word :). Fantastically caught!
Butterflies do indeed make for very tough subjects to photograph. I was lucky this one stayed still.
Well done, that’s a brilliant photo
Thanks ever so much. I am getting very into nature photography at the moment.
Oops #mysundayphoto
What a lovely capture!
Thanks you Jade, I am glad you appreciate it.
John, I always look forward to finding you photo of the week. It’s like travelling on a journey of photography development. It is incredibly inspiring, esp for an old tog like me to get back to it. Wonderful sitting shot. Looking forward to seeing tomorrow’s. #mysundayphoto
Martyn, that’s possibly the nicest comment anyone has ever left on my blog. When I read it, I confess you left me slightly moist eyed! Means a lot to read something like that. Glad you like my images. Such wonderful feedback.
So pretty well done John. Great photo #mysundayphoto
Thank you Hannah. Took some time and patience but I got there in the end!
