What you see here is a multi-coloured dragon. It was painted by Helen, my five year old daughter, at a birthday party she attended the other day.
All the kids had great fun painting various bits and pieces. My one, however, was immediately taken by the dragon, although I can’t help thinking it looks ever so slightly like a cow with wings.
It was wonderful to see how excited the kids were when they saw the pottery pieces. They all took to painting them with ease. To all the parents’ surprise, they seemed to keep the paint on the objects they were painting and not on their clothes (although we were assured the paint washes out of fabric)!
Having been painted, the pieces were fired in a kiln and we took delivery shortly afterwards. Helen was so excited about receiving her pottery dragon that she insisted on taking it to granny and grampa’s house, which is where the photo was taken.
I suspect we’ll be painting more pottery in future. Helen certainly enjoyed it and it seems like a fun pastime.
