Oh my word I spent absolutely ages trying to take this image of these beetles. While my kids played nearby, I watched as these two bugs danced round each other. Keen to get a decent shot, I took loads of pictures of them.
I’m unsure if they were trying to mate or quite what they were doing but they were very interested in each other. As is so often the way, this was not the photograph I had planned to take!
There’s a particular spot in a field near where we live that attracts a lot of butterflies. I had intended to snap some of them but came across these two.
The shiny colours on their back really stood out. The detail on the grass also appealed to me and I just had to try and get a picture of them.
I do enjoy nature photography but you sometimes need a lot of patience. Then again, you could say that about almost any style of photography!

Amazing photo fo the beetles – they do have interesting colors on their backs. #MySundayPhoto
They sure do. The colours stand out, right?
What a stunning macro!
Thanks, really glad you like the image. I spent ages trying to get a good shot of these two.
Great detail John, I love how vibrant they are. I think we had a couple of them in the garden, sound like helicopters when they take off
Thank you for linking up to #MySundayPhoto
Like helicopters you say Darren? I didn’t hear them take off but I shall listen out for it if I spot them again.
What an amazing photo! The detail is fantastic x
I liked the detail too Kim. Surprising as I was only using my usual 50mm lens.
Wow that is one incredible photo. The detail is amazing. Look at the colours. I am fascinated by insects x
Insects can make for great photographic subjects can’t they Susan? They just have to stay still for long enough!
What lovely bright colours on the beetles, I am more fascinated with the grass, looks such a complex plant #mysundayphoto
Ah, the grass. I don’t know what it was, but it was a bit like a bulrush. The ground was absolutely covered in a cotton-like substance that had been released by the plant.
You definitely nailed that photo! Well done for having the patience for it. I would definitely have got bored and given up after about 30 seconds.
When I am on a photography mission, I tend to stay with my subject Sarah! I get well and truly “in the zone!”
