For the first time in ages, I had a little time to get out and take some pictures with my camera this week. It was one of those rare moments when the children were elsewhere and I was on my own with little else to do.
I went for a short stroll and bumped into a group of cattle. Unusually they were quite happy with my presence and allowed me to get right up to them to take pictures.
This shot may not seem particularly significant to you, but to me it breaks new ground. Look at the nose and you’ll see I’ve successfully caught ‘lens flare’ on the image, the first time I’ve ever achieved this. Aside from that, I think it’s simply a fun picture!
Here are the technical details; aperture was set at f8, focal length 35mm, ISO 400 and shutter speed 1/30 of a second. To obtain the lens flare I shot the image into the sun, which you can clearly see at the top of the picture.
I’ve linked this image up to the #MySundayPhoto linky on the onedad3girls blog. It’s a great linky featuring superb photography so do take a moment to click on the badge below and have a look.

Love this shot! So calm yet interesting!
Glad you like it, it was fun to take.
Haha this made me giggle. Moooo! What a brilliant capture! x #mysundayphoto
Thanks, it was meant as a bit of fun, the lens flare just added to it.
Love this picture. Really made me smile and wow for being so close. Such interesting animals #mysundayphoto
All the cows mere mega curious. I was surrounded by them at this point. Odd, they usuall run off in the opposite direction.
Bonjour there! I nearly added bovine pictures to #MySundayPhoto but opted to put them in another blog post and went porcine instead! I do love a good close-up of a cow and love the smell of their breath.
Smell of their breath? I am a country boy (in exile) but must say I’ve never noticed this.
Wow that certainly is up close and personal. I think I’d be a little nervous getting so close although it certainly makes for a fun shot! Moooo! 🙂
I’m surprised I got so close. Cows normally run off the other way.
I love this, it’s as if you and the cow just went out for a walk together
Thank you for linking up
We practically did go for a walk together!
What a great photo! You got so close too!
….and the cow was completely unbothered. More than happy to be photographed.
Very cool photo. He (or she) really looks like he’s challenging you!
I assume it was a bullock. I thought he was being friendly, but maybe it was a challenge?
That’s a fine looking cow.
Love this shot, very personal!
A very fine looking beast indeed.
Oh hello, that was a close one!
Yup, but a fun picture to capture.
I love this, I am not skilled with a big girl camera, and one day I will know what you are speaking of, I think you did a great job!
Trust me, I’m not skilled either….I’ve just taken a few hints and tips from a professional photographer I know.
That really is up close & personal – I love the look straight down the lens.
What a great shot
